Take it easy this summer and fall while I try to build my mileage without injury (for a change).  Pick up the intensity as I start marathon training.   Run Boston with my wife A'Lissa in '09.  Run a sub 20 minute 5k in '09.

It was chilly this morning, but very nice.  I enjoyed the cold.  A'Lissa, Taylor and I set out to run together, but we split up at Skyline.  They are still sore from the half marathon and didn't want to run as long as me, so they did the Fill the Ark loop and I headed up to Wasatch Blvd.  Ran 6.06 miles, 8:33 pace.

4.5 miles on the treadmill, 8:52 pace.  I was really disappointed with the way things turned out last week with my running.  I had planned on running on Friday evening, but that plan fell victim to a little family drama that started when the cast list went up for the high school musical.  My daughter failed to win the lead!  A major injustice!  Saturday was really busy, but the plan was for A'Lissa and I to run on that night while pacing John in the Wasatch 100.  It turned out that he was way ahead of schedule, we just barely made it to the aid station before him, and our running plans didn't work out.

3 miles on the treadmill, 10 minute pace.  I have been dealing with the return of an old bugaboo, hip pain. It isn't bad, yet.  I'll keep working on it with stretches.

Went to Seattle over the weeked with A'Lissa, Veronica and Taylor to see Shrek the Musical.  (It is in Broadway previews).  Our travel schedule didn't allow for a run on Saturday, so we did it on Sunday.  I'm entering it on Saturday just becuase I consider it as a part of the previous week's totals.  Ran from the hotel down to the sound, and along the water to the park and back.  5.5 miles, 9:20 pace.

AM:  I'm going to Bob Firman XC Invitational in Boise this morning with the Skyline team, so I didn't go to work.  Ran with A'Lissa on Wasatch.  She said she didn't want to go fast, but you know how that goes.  We did an easy one mile warm-up in about 9:30, but finished the 5.35 miles in 7:59. That is fast for me.

P.M.  Jogged the course with the team, 3.1 miles, 9:01 pace.

I didn't get out running this morning, but spend the day running around the Firman course cheering our athletes.  I'll count it as 4 miles, although it was probably longer.

4 miles on the treadmill, 8:45 pace.  My hip has continued to worsen.  It isn't bad yet, but is getting worse.  Time to schedule an appointment with Dr. McIntyre!

My running has experienced a bit of a setback, and I don't know how many days it will be before I can run again.  On Tuesday I had a physical exam scheduled with my doctor, and while I was there, I showed him a wart on the bottom of my big toe.  It had been causing me a bit of discomfort lately when I run.  The doctor said no problem, we'll get some liquid nitrogen and take care of it.

He had a third year medical student there helping out, and my doctor left and had the student do the procedure.  I don't know if the student did anything wrong, but I definitely had an unusual result.  I had been warned that a blood blister would develop over the top of the wart, but I don't think they had in mind what actually happened.  The toe ballooned up with blood in a massive blister that ended up encasing almost the entire toe!  I went back in yesterday because of the excruciating pain.  They were all shocked at what they saw.  The doctor asked the medical student how long he applied the liquid nitrogen.  The student assured him it was only 20 seconds (x 3), but I'm not so sure.

Anyway, they drained it, leaving a massive deflated blister on the toe.  By this morning it had largely filled back up, so I drained it again.  At this point I can barely walk, let alone run.
