Short-Term Running Goals:

I don't have any running goals.  In fact, since October 2010 I've been doing more strength training than running.

After dealing with some annoying injuries throughout the summer and fall and I pretty much gave up running for while.  With the new year I plan on doing more running, but I'll still be doing P90x also.

Hmmm, I take it back....I do have a couple of running related goals.  First is to put together a team to win the Law Day 5k!  After that I'll be helping Thatcher get back in shape and make the BYU team after he returns from his mission.

Personal:

50 years old, married to A'Lissa (who is faster than me) for 20+ years, 3 fantastic kids.  My son Thatcher has a blog here at fastrunningblog.com, but it is on hiatus while he serves an LDS mission (returning in May!)  In the past I operated a youth track club and I served as a volunteer assistant with the Skyline XC team.  A'Lissa and I are the race directors for the Fill the Ark 5k in East Millcreek.

I'm back!  I pretty much stopped running last Summer due to injuries, and then I started doing P90x and made that my main fitness focus.  I did an occasional run over the past few months, but I never recorded them here.  I plan on doing it more frequently in the new year, so I'm going to start back up here at fastrunningblog.com.

We are in San Diego (Coronado) for the weekend and I did a 4 mile run mostly along the water front with A'Lissa and Taylor.  4 miles, 8:10/mi pace.

A'Lissa and I are in Palm Springs this week for a vacation.  Our plan is to make it and active vacation and we got off to a good start this morning.  We ran 4.05 miles on the streets near the resort this morning (8:13/mi pace) and a 4+ mile hike this afternoon.

We got up this morning and drove to a neighborhood of 1950s houses to combine a run and a mid-century modern architecture tour!  2.75 miles, 8:44/mi pace.  Since I'm not really in running shape I'll be workout out in the gym on alternate days while here.

I was really cold this morning, so we decided to run in the gym.  I started feeling some hip pain after a couple of miles (8:17/mi pace), so I finished up with another 25 minutes on the elliptical.

My feet feel pretty good--I've finally gotten rid of the painful corns I was dealing with, my neuromas seem to be under control thanks to my orthotics, and the pain at the top of my arch is gone for the moment.  Time to get back out and do some running!

Today I ran in the morning to the Millcreek fee booth and back.  It felt great and it was wonderful to get out on a beautiful morning.

From now on I'm running for fun.  I don't think I'll ever do another marathon and I don't really have any interest at the moment of doing any racing whatsoever.  I'll just run at whatever pace feels fun!  I'll also continue to do strength training and other cardio exercise, in part to try to avoid injury.  3.11 miles, 9:26/mi.

Ran to the Millcreek Canyon fee booth again.  This run is a little further than the last one because last time I didn't really make it quite to the fee booth.  Being my first run in ages it was fairly hard, so I didn't make it up the final steep hill prior to the booth.  This time I went all the way to the booth and circled around it.

3.28 miles, 8:50/mi pace.

I went a little longer today than I have since coming back, but it wasn't nearly as long as it felt!  I did the Wasatch Blvd/Tanner Park loop and I was pretty tuckered out by 4 miles.  I turned off the Garmin and walked up Brookburn, so I didn't count the mileage on that last uphill stretch.  4.83 miles, 8:48/mi.
